R&S was engaged to accomplish engineering, procurement
and construction of a limestone crushing, screening and
storage system and 450 TPH capacity coal unloading and storage
system for Dravo Lime's Black River Plant in Butler Kentucky.
Limestone is conveyed from the mine portal to the screen
at a rate of 1200 tph where it is separated by size. The
oversize fraction is sent ot a crusher and then back to
the screen. Screened limestone is sent to storage piles
based on its size and magnesium content through a standard
conveyor, tripper conveyor, and a fixed raidla stacker.
Limestone is relcaimed for calcination via an underground
reclaim conveyor system. The scope of work also includes
cyclones and a thickener.
Coal for the kilns is unloaded by truck into a 50 ton capacity
truck dump. From there the coal is conveyed into one of
three 3,000 ton silos. The silos discharge to a conveyor
which sends the coal to the kilns' use bins.
The significant challenge in the execution of this project
was minimizing downtime.
