Potomac Electric Power Company
Chalk Point Generating Station
Washington, DC
For
the Potomac Electric Power Company, Roberts & Schaefer furnished
complete project management, detailed engineering, procurement
assistance, and construction inspection services to upgrade the
coal handling facility serving the Chalk Point Generating Station.
The project's first phase was a detailed facility inspection
and evaluation. This phase produced a written report, identifying
problems and making recommendations to resolve them. The second
phase completely rebuilt portions of the facility. It included
modernizing the coal unloading rotary dump and dump station, replacing
the sampling system, upgrading the stacker-reclaimer unit, and
adding a circuit to handle frozen coal reclaimed from the storage
yard. The work required extensive field measurement of reusable
foundations, structures, and existing equipment.
R&S also provided the designs for new structures, and application
of coal handling equipment, as well as for a complete new electrical
distribution system, controls, system interlocks, instrumentation
with alarms, annunciator, communications, and lighting.
