Central
Hudson Gas and Electric
Danskammer Generating Station
Newburgh, New York
For Central Hudson Gas and Electric, R&S replaced a rail
unloading facility with a marine coal unloading facility and associated
equipment. The marine facility delivers three times the tonnage
of the rail facility.
Self-unloading
vessels (30,000 ton DWT class) deliver coal to the modified Roseton
dock. A coal-receiving hopper and belt conveyor are installed
on a marine cell, in which a vessel unloads at up to 2,000 metric
TPH. A vessel breasts against the existing dock, and an unloading
conveyor boom is positioned over the receiving hopper, inside
the enclosure. A conveyor located under the receiving hopper conveys
coal to a transfer tower, from which it moves to another conveyor
at 2000 metric TPH. This conveyor moves the coal to a second transfer
tower, from which it is distributed between the existing stockout
rated at 500 to 1,000 metric TPH via two more conveyors. The coal-receiving
hopper is enclosed to minimize fugitive coal dust emission.
Several years later, Central Hudson Gas and Electric shifted
Danskammer Station units 3 and 4 to coal from oil. Again they
selected Roberts & Schaefer to provide engineering, procurement,
and construction services for the new coal handling system.
