For a major upgrade to the coal handing system and a unit train
load-in facility at their Dave Johnston Power Plant, PacifiCorp
chose Roberts & Schaefer.
The
upgrade included a new railroad car spotter, coal crushers and
belt feeders with telescopic chutes. The capacity was also increased
by one third, from 900 TPH to 1,200 TPH.
The unit train load-in consisted of two 72-inch wide belt feeders
capable of 2,200 TPH each. Located under the rail car unloading
hoppers these belt feeders move coal to a single 72-inch wide
4,400 TPH overland conveyor. Almost 2,900 feet long this overland
conveyor feeds a radial stacker with a 240-foot long boom conveyor
and a telescopic spout capable of building a coal pile almost
90 feet high. The radial stacker can slew a total of 240 degrees
and can stack automatically.
Programmable logic controllers (PLC) allow the belt feeders,
overland conveyor, and the radial stacker to run automatically.
Ancillary systems include dust suppression, dust collection, belt
scales and a belt ripped detector system.
