Roberts
& Schaefer Company provided engineering services for four
overland conveyor belts on a time and material basis. The four
conveyors totaled 8,000 linear feet of 42" wide conveyor,
transporting 2,500 TPH of 8" x 0" raw sand and gravel
aggregate from the pit to the plant. The conveyors varied in length
from 500' to 3,700' long. One 3,700' conveyor had two horizontal
curves. The scope or work consisted of detailed engineering and
shop drawings for the conveyors, transfer stations, chutes, retaining
walls and foundations. A unique spring action conveyor stringer
was developed for use within the horizontally curved portions
of the conveyor. The spring mechanism allowed the stringer to
vary its super elevation depending on the weight of material being
transported on the belt and the radius of the curve.
