Cement and Coal Loading, Unloading and Storage Terminal Study
Maryland Plant
Sweetwater, Texas
For Lone Star Industries, R&S performed a study for a new
cement and coal loading, unloading and storage terminal for Lone
Star's Maryland plant in Sweetwater, Texas. The study examines
the feasibility of constructing a new facility to bypass an expensive
section of privately owned railroad.
The facility would be built about 20 miles from the existing
plant. Coal would be unloaded from rail cars at the new site and
transferred to trucks, which would move the coal to the plant.
Cement from the plant would be offloaded from trucks and loaded
into storage silos for transfer into rail cars. Both systems would
eliminate the use of the expensive section of privately owned
railroad now feeding the plant.
