Roberts & Schaefer provided engineering and equipment procurement services for system upgrades to the coal handling facilities for Illinois coal-fired power plants Fisk Station, Waukegan Station, and Joliet No. 9 Station.

The Waukegan Station project consists of constructing a new 200 ft. long, rail-mounted stacker with a rear pivot mount and articulating boom. Design capacity is a 1800 TPH, fully-automated stacker that gives ComEd the ability to form a 44-foot high 16,000-ton coal storage pile.

The Joliet No. 9 Station project consists of a new counterweighted pedestal mounted stacker. Design capacity is 1,600 TPH, and allows ComEd to form a 45 foot high 23,000 ton coal storage pile shortening the train unloading time by about 50%.
