Roberts & Schaefer provided engineering and procurement for
the ore and pellet feed and blending system and hot briquetted
iron (HBI) stockpile, screening and train loadout system at the
Posven HBI plant. R&S also provided dust collection, cooling
water spray, sampling, and dust suppression systems. The entire
system is controlled through a programmable logic control system
(PLC) via a human-machine interface (HMI) computer terminal.
Iron ore and pellets feed the system from both an open ore and
pellet reclaim hopper and a pellet feed conveyor system. Ore and
pellets are stored in separate bins, which have weigh belt feeders
on each bin discharge. The weigh belt feeders feed double-deck
screens. Oversize (over 38 mm) lumps are conveyed to a stockpile.
Screened fines (less than 6.35 mm) are moved to two ore and pellet
fines bins for truck loadout. A controlled mix of sized ore and
pellets (between 6.35 mm and 38 mm) and HBI fines is moved to
the reactor reduction system and briquette machines.
From the briquette machines, briquettes move along cooling conveyors
to two screens. Screened HBI fines move to an HBI fines bin and
are sent back through the process. Overs from the screens are
conveyed either to the train loadout system or to a stockout pile.
Due to limited space, pocket conveyors and standard conveyors
are used throughout the system.
