ROBERTS AND SCHAEFER COMPANY - How the world processes its resources

Caribbean Ispat Limited

Direct Reduction Facility III (DR3)
Point Lisas, Trinidad & Tobago

For Caribbean Ispat Limited, Roberts & Schaefer furnished engineering, procurement, and structural and mechanical erection services at the Direct Reduction Facility III (DR3), including iron oxide screening, a storage and reduction furnace feed system, product conveying, storage and reclaim systems, and a ship loading feed conveyor system. Due to the highly reactive DRI, product storage bins and the product reclaim storage building required gas-tight slide gates.

A series of conveyors receive iron oxide from mobile hoppers, conveyors, and a ship unloader. The oxide moves to either a stacker-reclaimer for storage or to a set of oxide screens. Screened fines move to a stockpile. Sized oxide is stored in day bins, which have weigh belt feeders on each bin discharge. Oxide is then conveyed to the reduction furnace, from which the DRI product then moves to storage bins. The bins are equipped with vibrating feeders that feed the DRI product to a screening station, from which it moves to a bin for truck loading.

The overs are moved to either the existing meltshop, the existing product storage building, or to a new product storage building. The DRI product is automatically placed in four stockpiles in the product storage building, from which it is reclaimed via a series of slide gates and conveyors to the dock conveyor-tripper for ship loading.
