A.E.S. Barbers Point
Barbers Point
Oahu, Hawaii
Roberts
& Schaefer provided engineering, procurement, and construction
of a coal-handling facility at Barbers Point, Oahu, Hawaii.
The owner's harbor loadout conveyor discharges at the top of
one of two concrete lowering walls provided by R&S. Coal moved
by the owner's loadout system moves at the rate of 1,250 TPH.
Coal discharges either to lowering tube number 1, or to coal transfer
conveyor number 1 for delivery to lowering tube number 2. The
facility includes open ground storage.
A front-end loader reclaims coal to a similar aboveground reclaim
hopper. The hopper is fitted with a variable-speed trip feeder,
which reclaims at a rate of from 1 to 270 TPH. The reclaim feeder
includes a belt scale and a magnetic separator to remove tramp
iron. Reclaimed coal is crushed or bypassed ahead of the coal
transfer conveyor, which delivers the crushed coal to a generation
building. The coal is discharged to an en masse chain conveyor,
which distributes or selectively fills the owner's four coal silos.
A complete "as fired" sampling system is provided in
the generation building before storage. The crusher building and
the bunker area are provided with a complete dust collection system.
R&S also provided a complete control and instrumentation package,
which interfaced to the owner's control system.
