Flash Chlorination Facility Addition

& Schaefer provided engineering, procurement, and construction
management services at Newmont Gold Company's No. 1 Mill, to add
three flash-chlorination vessels and associated platforms and
equipment. The flash-chlorination vessels are used to conduct
full-scale tests for treating carbonaceous ore. The addition also
required a chlorine distribution and handling system.
The chlorination vessel control system and peripheral connections
were retrofitted into an existing control panel and DCS system.
R&S designed and tested all field instrumentation and process
control equipment.
The project included these noteworthy items: specification and
procurement of hardware and software, control panel design modification,
field devices and electrical equipment start up and commissioning,
distributed control system retrofit, and implementation of a microprocessor-based
distributed PID controller.
