The Carter Mining Company
Rawhide Mine Expansion
Gillette, Wyoming
Roberts
& Schaefer provided complete project management, detailed
engineering, procurement, and construction services under a turnkey,
fixed fee contract to expand the Carter Mining Company's Rawhide
Mine in Gillette, Wyoming. The Rawhide Mine produces 10 million
tons of coal per year. The expansion included adding an in-pit
crushing and conveying facility, with an in-pit truck dump station
to accommodate 180-ton capacity bottom- or end-dump trucks.
Two
dump hoppers, with a combined capacity of 350 tons, are each fitted
with a feeder-breaker that reduces run-of-mine coal to a nominal
10 inches X 0 size, at a combined rate of 6,000 TPH. Each feeder-breaker
discharges directly onto a 72 inch wide, 2,300 PIW overland conveyor,
which is 8,300 feet long with a 360 foot lift. The conveyor, which
uses three 1,750 HP drives and a 150 HP creep drive, operates
at nearly 1,000 FPM and delivers the crushed coal to a single
12,000 ton concrete storage silo.
