Wyoming Fuel Company
New Elk Mine
Weston, Colorado
Roberts & Schaefer provided detailed engineering services
for Wyoming Fuel Company's New Elk Mine coal handling and preparation
facility near Weston, Colorado.
R&S began phase one by preparing layouts of the general arrangement
of the entire facility, establishing the most cost-effective plant
configuration to fit the terrain and integrate into the existing
facilities.
The layout of the 400 TPH preparation plant was based on a flowsheet
prepared by Wyoming Fuel Company. The plant uses a heavy media
vessel to clean the coarse coal fraction and diester tables to
clean the one-quarter inch by 100-mesh fraction. The plant can
be expanded to double its feed rate.
Phase two provided the detailed design of the preparation plant,
including foundation support system, structural steel design,
platework detailing for chutework, sumps and other material and
slurry handling systems, process piping flowsheets and detailed
process piping and utility piping.
