Overland Conveyor

R&S designed and built this conveyor system for United States
Steel at their Hueytown, Alabama facility. The combined length
of the three conveyors exceeds five miles. It traverses hilly
terrain, requiring extensive cut and fill work, and includes suspension
bridges over ravines, highways, and river crossings.
The system originates at a storage silo, where reciprocating
feeders move material smaller than 4 inches in size onto the first
of three conveyors. Each conveyor has an 850 TPH capacity, is
36 inches wide, and runs at 600 FPM. The three drives are identical,
with rope-supported idlers. All returns use belt turn-overs.
