Los
Angeles Export Terminal, Inc. (LAXT) chose Roberts & Schaefer
Company to provide turnkey engineering design, procurement and
construction services for material improvements to their Petroleum
Coke Storage and Reclaim Facility at the Port of Los Angeles in
California.
The petcoke storage facility included a petcoke storage shelter,
an enclosed truck dump, associated material processing and material
handling equipment. These improvements were integrated into existing
facilities to enhance their performance and versatility.
These facilities receive petcoke and coal then provides storage
optimized for shipping via ocean vessels. The combined project
and existing facilities allows for receiving an expanded range
of petcoke grades including uncrushed petcoke for on site crushing
to customer specification using a new 550 tph truck dump system.
On site petcoke storage capacity was increased by 170,000 tons
through a storage conveying system which includes a high angle
conveyor and traveling tripper stacking conveyor in a new metal
building with a footprint of 240 feet by 475 feet with an eave
height 35 feet above grade. A 2,200-tph reclaim system improved
the facility’s ability to export optimized blends of petcoke
products.
