As utility companies try to reduce their operating costs, the
use of alternate fuel sources may become a viable option. Benefits
may include financial incentives from federal and state agencies
for installing and operating "waste" fuel systems.
The use of these fuels has increased as their disposal has become
more difficult and costly. Wood chips (sometimes called "hog fuel"),
old tires, sugar cane waste, municipal waste, or almost any other
combustible material are all being considered.
Roberts & Schaefer Company's experience in the design, construction
and commissioning of alternate fuel facilities has provided our
clients cost effective energy sources to supplement or replace
existing ones.

Morgantown, West Virginia
For their Morgantown Energy Project Bechtel chose R&S to provide
engineering and procurement for processing of bituminous coal
and gob. R&S engineered the associated silos, electrical, control,
instrumentation, and interfaced with supplied control systems.

England Generating Station
Marmora, New Jersey
R&S provided engineering, procurement and construction services
for a tire derived fuel system, an auxiliary fuel-handling system
for utility steam generators. This included motors, starters,
