Project Background

Roberts & Schaefer Company was awarded a turnkey contract from Black & Veatch LTD for engineering, procurement, start–up and commissioning of the limestone preparation facility at Map Ta Phut Cogeneration Co. LTD’s. COCO II Hybrid Power Plant in Rayong Province, Thailand. The system was successfully completed and in operation in 1999.

The raw limestone received at the system is 3 inches X 0 inches, with about 6 percent moisture content. The preparation facility includes twin limestone preparation systems, each of which has a reclaim hopper that is filled by a front–end loader. The reclaim hopper has a variable rate vibratory feeder that discharges to a belt conveyor at 20 TPH. The conveyor transfers the limestone to the limestone preparation building. There the limestone is discharged to an impactor that reduces the limestone size to 3/4 inch X 0 inch.

The reduced limestone is then discharged to a surge bin that feeds a weigh belt feeder, which in turn feeds a pulverizer. The pulverizer further reduces the limestone to –4 mesh, from there it moves into a burner/combustion system to reduce the moisture content to about 1 percent. The dried limestone is pneumatically conveyed about 900 feet to day bins at the power plant. Ancillary systems include a bag house dust collection system, a metal detection system, and a PLC control system.
