  • Scope: Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Startup and Commissioning

Project Background

Roberts & Schaefer Company was awarded a turnkey contract from Middle East Oil Refinery for engineering, procurement, construction, start-up and commissioning of the petroleum coke handling system at Middle East Oil Refinery’s MIDOR Refinery near Alexandria, Egypt. The system was successfully completed and in operation in 2001.

For the pet coke stockpiling and truck loading facility a traveling overhead bridge crane lifts pet coke from a pad and loads it into a hopper. Under the hopper, a 300 MTPH feeder breaker reduces the pet coke to 100 mm and transfers it to a conveyor. The conveyor discharges to an open stockpile through a stacking tube. The pile capacity is 20,000 metric tons.

The pet coke is reclaimed from the stockpile by four variable rate vibratory feeders, which feed a 300 MTPH reclaim conveyor that conveys the pet coke to a 100- metric ton surge bin. The surge bin has a telescoping loadout spout and cutoff gate to fill open trucks. Under the bin, a truck scale weighs the amount of pet coke loaded onto each truck.

The stockout and reclaim areas are provided with wet dust suppression. A programmable logic controller (PLC) controls the entire operation. Ancillary systems include truck washdown, tunnel ventilation, and sump pumps.
