Project Background
Engineering, procurement and construction for a material handling system by Lehigh Portland Cement Company at their Union Bridge, Maryland, cement facility.
The project consisted of a series of conveyors to accept either rail or truck delivered coal, coke, iron, steam coal and sand.
The products were stockpiled by a longitudinal stacker and reclaimed by a scraper reclaimer. Once reclaimed, the material is conveyed to storage bins for use in the kiln process.
The existing limestone system was also extended by a series of conveyors and stored in a new 52,000 MT storage dome. The limestone is reclaimed by pan feeders and conveyed to storage bins. Clinker from the kilns was also stored in new silos and conveyed to the existing conveyor system for grinding and distribution as a final product.
Throughout the facility, dust collection and dust suppression systems were provided.
