Project Background
Roberts & Schaefer Company was awarded a turnkey contract from Ameren Energy Resources Generating Company for engineering, procurement, construction, start–up and commissioning of the coal handling system upgrade at Ameren Energy Resources Generating Companys Duck Creek Power Station in Canton, Illinois. The system was successfully completed and in operation in 2004.
The coal handling facility receives coal by train, and it is unloaded by a rotary car dumper. The rotary car dumper was modified by others for switching to western PRB coal with the unloading capacity increased from 2,000 to 3,000 TPH. The conveyor system from unloading through stockout was upgraded with 45–degree idlers, new pulleys, new belt, new drives, and new conveyor components, as required, for the increased capacity of 3,000 TPH. The modifications included conveyor chutework and skirtboards, and conveyor/building structural steel and foundations. The stacker–reclaimer boom conveyor was modified with a new drive, chutework, and structural steel for the increased capacity.
