Project Background
Roberts & Schaefer Company was awarded a turnkey contract from Cyprus Amax Coal Company for engineering, procurement, and construction of the coal preparation plant at Cyprus Amax Coal Company’s Wabash Coal Preparation Plant in Keensburg, Illinois. The system was successfully completed and in operation in 1993.
The coal preparation plant was built at an existing mine site, which previously operated separate fine and coarse coal cleaning plants. The new 1,500 TPH coal preparation, storage, and reclaim facility replaces all existing cleaning facilities while increasing total plant capacity. The existing operations were kept in operation during the construction phase of the new coal preparation plant. The overall project was completed in approximately 14 months.
