Methods to transport bulk materials over long distances must
include the consideration of overland conveyors. Roberts & Schaefer
Company has designed, constructed and commissioned conveyor systems
over exceedingly difficult terrain using special or standard conveying
systems. Projects range from surface mining operations that have
moved further from existing storage and loading facilities, to
new hard rock quarries that totally eliminated truck hauling from
the onset.
Our in-depth engineering capabilities provide both the static
and the dynamic design analysis critical to each conveyor's operation.
In addition, we apply design features that maximize operating
availability, the use of horizontal curves to eliminate transfer
points, and configuring drive arrangements to optimize horsepower.
Our broad experience has successfully demonstrated the value
and reliability of high speed, high capacity overland conveyor
systems. We present the projects below to illustrate our experience
and capabilities.
HARRIS MINE - KOPPERSTON PROJECT
Norfolk
& Western Railway Company
Kopperston, West Virginia
Roberts & Schaefer served as the project manager and did the
detailed engineering, permitting and construction management for
this $45 million dollar endeavor. The goal was to create a coal
handling system that would combine coal from two separate production
facilities, store and load unit trains. Initially capacity was
specified as 2 MTPY, but is now running at double that. In-depth
project information
BLACK THUNDER MINE
Thunder Basin Coal Company
Wright, Wyoming
Roberts & Schaefer provided complete project management, detailed
engineering, procurement and constructions management services
for the addition of two run-of-mine, semi-mobile, near pit crushing
stations and an overland conveying system to the Black Thunder
Mine. In-depth project information
